Girlaxin is a concept a movement that represents the continuation of commitment, loyalty, celebration and loyalty of the sisterhood. As an extension of Girlaxin ideas of images were created and designed to portray the essence that embodies what Girlaxin is about. It's our billboard to display thought provoking expressions and images you wear on a comfy tee-shirt. Not only t-shirts but other items like, mugs, hats, scarves and more are etched in ink categorized as accessories. I saw a need to capture these images on various items after observing women at my house, in salons, spas, in the gym and all over Atlanta, GA where our routines required us to be present. What I noticed were women discussing family, relationships and work. I witnessed women solving problems, sharing recipes, offering hair and makeup tips, networking with women establishing bonds. There were high fives and celebrations, raised glasses toasting accomplishments, laughter, eating dinner, offering compliments and admiring our individual uniqueness. An abundance of encouragement, guidance, instructions and a shoulder to cry on if the need presented itself.
Watching women gather in common places over the years became a mission for me to call it something other than a gathering, a celebration, a cookout, a holiday event, this was special and needed its own name. A name that could capture the moods, thoughts, discussions and expressions observed everywhere I went. Finally the name came to me in my living room one evening, "Girlaxin,” pronounced gir-lax-in rolled off my tongue with ease, the more I repeated the name Girlaxin the catchier it sounded and described exactly what I saw women doing over the years.
How We Started
It started as a dream! I saw images with thought provoking sayings dancing around in my mind…each one with their hands raised high shouting “pick me, pick me.” When I awoke the images were still in my mind but I did not have the ability to get them to paper because of my very limited drawing skills. So I sought out to find a talented graphic designer who could take what was in my mind and capture them on paper. With the assistance of a great graphic designer, finally my dream has taken on a life of itself and now three images are ready to be introduced in my first collection called “Trizuri (three beauties). The first image called “Count Money, Not Sheep” describes the women who find it difficult to fall asleep but once she starts thinking about her family, community and her business, she shifts her focus to her finances and begins to count money and falls asleep. The second image called, “All Day Everyday,” describes the women who are experts at multitasking: she cooks, she organizes, she plans, and she’s a homemaker but still takes time for herself. The last image called, “Conquer The World” describes women from cities across the US that wake up every morning ready for challenges that await her. These three images now make their debut on tee shirts and the Girlaxin logo represents the foundation and name of the business found on all products to include tee shirts, bags, hats…etc like billboard messages advertising our greatness as women!
